IELTS is the English language test most universities and immigration systems in the UK, Australia, Canada and elsewhere accept. It comes in Academic and General Training versions, tests listening, reading, writing and speaking, and reports a band from 0 to 9 for each and overall. In Nepal it is run through the British Council and IDP.

Academic or General Training?
Academic for university admission; General Training for most work and migration routes. The listening and speaking papers are the same; reading and writing differ. Your destination’s requirement decides.
What band do I need?
It depends on the university or the visa route, not on the test. Most undergraduate offers ask for an overall 6.0 to 6.5 with no band below 5.5 or 6.0; check the exact requirement before you book.
